Renetta L. Hatcher, M.D. has assisted Dr. Popoola with bariatric surgeries since 2002. "It has been a pleasure to work with professionals that are happy and excited about how they help patients obtain their weight goals," said Dr. Hatcher. Dr. Hatcher is a native of Chicago, but grew up in California where she earned a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from California Polytechnic University in Pomona, California. In 1996, Dr. Hatcher received her Doctor of Medicine from Howard University, College of Medicine. She completed her general surgery internship and residency from King Drew Medical Center, Department of Surgery, where she was the chief resident from 2001 until 2002. "King Drew Medical Center is in a major metropolitan area; therefore, my experience has included a heavy exposure to trauma and surgical critical care," said Dr. Hatcher.

Her military background is certainly a testament to her commitment to serving,
protecting and saving people. Since 2000, Dr. Hatcher has held the rank of captain
in the U.S. Army Reserves. From 1986 to 1989, she served active duty in the U.S.
Army as a Specialist 4. Dr. Hatcher also served as a Specialist 4, IRR, in the U.S.
Army Inactive Ready Reserves from 1985 to 1993.

During her Republic of Korea tour of duty in 1989, she was decorated with the
Commendation medal for work in microbiology, Good Conduct medal and an
Overseas ribbon. Dr. Hatcher has been featured in a television show, "Trauma: Life
in ER" and has received numerous awards and honors. She received the Outstanding
Resident's Award from the California Hospital Medical Center; the Physician's
Recognition Award from the American Medical Association; a Certificate of
Appreciation from Charles R. Drew University of Medicine & Science and the
National Medical Association's Mead Johnson sponsored award.

She is a member of the American Medical Association Political Action Committee, the American Trauma Society, the American College of Surgeons, the National Medical Association and the Association of Women Surgeons. Dr. Hatcher is active in her local church and keeps fit by rollerblading and biking.
